Waiting on the world to change.

I am writing this entry because I am moved, touched, saddened, and disgusted.

Something needs to change in the system.
If a student is making suicidal threats, their guardians need to know about it.
REGARDLESS OF HER AGE. Confidentiality laws shouldn't apply when a life is in jeopardy.
If a poor girl is pacing the halls, telling everyone she is going to hurt herself...
her guardians need to know about it. Someone has to reach out and help.
It shouldn't have progressed that far, with people turning their heads the other way.
There are confidentiality laws, but she was caught cutting herself with razorblades.
How is that not enough of a cause to notify her family?
A girl is dead and her father didn't even know she was on anti-depressants.
It is arguable that even Nadia didn't know that her medication could cause the suicidal thoughts she was trying so hard to rid herself of.
We already pay enough tuition; health and counselling services need to be up to par with what we're paying. Sixteen and seventeen year-olds are leaving home for the first time, miles away from everything familiar, and some people have a harder time than others.

Rest in peace, Nadia Kajouji.
You touched more people than you ever could have known.
